Michele Colucci, Ph.D., LL.M., D.E.S., Attorney-at-Law (Italy), admitted to practise before the Italian Supreme Court (Corte di Cassazione) , is an official of the European Commission in Brussels and an internationally recognised expert in international and European sports law.
He is a long-standing member of the Dispute Resolution Chamber of the FIFA Tribunal, where he has been adjudicating disputes for over 20 years and has decided more than 800 cases. He is also a member of the FIFPRO Dispute Committee and President of the Council of the Court of Arbitration of the European Handball Federation, where he has contributed to strengthening the Court’s independence, procedural integrity, and compliance with internationally recognised standards of due process in sports arbitration.
He has extensive experience in complex international disputes, particularly in matters relating to contractual stability, employment relations, and regulatory frameworks in professional sport.
He is the Editor of the International Encyclopaedia of Sports Law composed of more than 50 national monographs on Sports Law and he is also the Scientific Director of the Rivista di Diritto ed Economia dello Sport. He has extensively been teaching in international postgraduate programmes, including ISDE, FIFA, and MESGO.
He is particularly proud to have conceived and launched the idea of an Erasmus sports Programme before the European Parliament in November 2010 which eventually led to creation of the Erasmus + Sport programme of the European Commission.
He is also a leading expert in safeguarding in sport, having authored and coordinated major policy and research initiatives on the prevention of abuse, governance standards, and compliance mechanisms within sports organisations.
He is the Founder and Honorary President of the Italian Sports Lawyers Association and the founder of the Sports Law and Policy Centre.
He combines over two decades of adjudicatory experience with recognised academic and policy expertise and is widely regarded as an independent and reliable arbitrator in international sports disputes.
He wrote extensively in the field of Sports Law and he is editor of the following books :
